Ingredients

  • 4 thick slices of sourdough bread
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk or plant-based milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar optional
  • Butter or oil for frying
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup powdered sugar, fresh berries, whipped cream

Instructions

Prepare the Batter:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and sugar (if using) until well combined.

Soak the Bread:

  • Dip each slice of sourdough bread into the batter, ensuring both sides are evenly coated. Let the bread soak for about 10–15 seconds per side.

Heat the Pan:

  • Heat a non-stick frying pan or griddle over medium heat. Add a small amount of butter or oil to coat the surface.

Cook the French Toast:

  • Place the soaked bread slices onto the hot pan. Cook for 2–3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy on the edges.

Serve:

  • Serve warm with your choice of toppings, such as maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh fruit, or whipped cream.

Pro Tips:

  • Use day-old sourdough bread for better absorption of the batter.
  • Add a pinch of nutmeg for extra flavor.
  • To keep cooked French toast warm, place it on a baking sheet in a low oven (200°F/90°C) until ready to serve.
